Martin Zamuzz

Creativity Coach

  •       Advice and Training for People on how best to foster a Creative Discipline within their Lives
  •       Coaching for Issues like Creative Blocks and Others

I work with specific creative issues and make use of the best and most effective creative strategies, all of which I can also help you to apply to the latest available software (in music e.g. Cubase).

My experience shows that there are very definite approaches that will radically improve my clients’ satisfaction in the creative areas of their lives and optimise the use of their creative gifts. Everyone seems to encounter similar pitfalls in this area, and the right guidance here can be truly invaluable.

My work is based on ‘The Toltec Teachings’, for the main part, and on the use of techniques like Theatre Improvisation and transpersonal psychology in practical terms.
Apart from individual coaching sessions I run improvisation workshops and an alternative radio arts website.

I am also a trained Numerologist.

Some Examples

(all names changed)

Jeff is a mature film student who struggled with writer’s block. He needed to write his dissertation but he had developed a phobia about writing and actually typing into the keyboard. I encouraged him to shift the focus by suggesting he practise the exercise of typing in a free associative manner, and focusing on how it felt as he did it. This he found annoying, but it did help him to remember a lot of negative conditioning from previous teaching situations, and in this way he could begin to see his problem differently. We discussed his writing history and any negative feeling connected to it. I then worked at shifting the focus from an academic approach to something more intuitive. Finally I advised Jeff to dictate his dissertation, which he then sent to the printer.

Lulu works in computer animation, a field in which she is very competent. She was interested in writing music for her own film animations, yet felt this impossible as she had no formal academic music training whatsoever. First off I worked on her conception of what this issue entailed. She needed to see that ‘composing’ and the means you use to realise your vision, are not the same thing. Social conditioning fools us into taking theory as the sum total of the creative process. Then I did a framing exercise with her (defining limitations and then working only within a small manageable area) and she then realised she could compose, if she gauged her expectations about the level of sophistication involved. We put her piano theme into a software programme.  She is very computer literate and quickly grasped the use of this software, and has now completed several of her own compositions for use in her own films.

Peter is a painter and sculptor. He had never done any creative writing. His long cherished dream was to write a graphic novel. However, this would require certain writing skills. I began with improvisation exercises to show him he could creatively use words. I then used an exercise of writing words and pictures together, without thinking beforehand in order to prove to him there was a connection between the two.  In tackling his conception of what his issue with writing was, I worked on getting him to see that always thinking in technical and analytical terms about what he would create, wasn’t helping him. This meant he needed to value his own method, ideas and approaches. We also worked on scaling down his expectations, a vital step in the process, as it allowed him to complete a writing project and get a feeling that this was possible for him. Since then Peter has completed a number of short stories and is at moment working on his graphic novel.

In all of the above I offer tailor made solutions and take into account the unique and magical nature of human beings and awareness. I show people that all that is really needed is encouragement to see we can shift the focus on creative issues. That our received ideas on this, i.e. social conditioning, are really not helping us to be productive, happy and creative.
